A Yonkers student spoke with News 12 to reflect on the March For Our Lives event that took place Saturday in Washington, D.C.

Iormares Rodas, a senior at Yonkers Montessori Academy, took the trip to D.C. with her classmates to be among hundreds of thousands of students who demanded change.

Rodas says the turnout was just as inspiring as the message.

"People from Parkland spoke, just tears, emotions, it was an amazing experience,” she says.

Rodas was first made aware that school shootings were an issue when Sandy Hook happened, but it wasn’t until the Parkland shooting that she decided it was time to act.

She says she marched not only for stricter guns laws, but for a change in how schools deal with students.

Rodas says she also plans to take action at her school.
