The City of Yonkers is asking residents, shoppers and business owners to help shape the future of Central Avenue.
Mayor Mike Spano has launched the "Reimagine Central Avenue" initiative, aimed at exploring improvements along the 2.3-mile stretch between Tuckahoe Road and the northern Yonkers border.
City leaders say the effort is focused on making the corridor more accessible and walkable while also creating opportunities for new housing and economic development.
Mayor Mike Spano said the goal is to reimagine Central Avenue in a way that better serves residents and visitors in the years ahead.
People who frequent the corridor told News 12 they value its mix of shopping, restaurants and services, but also see room for improvement. Suggestions included more family-friendly amenities such as playgrounds, additional affordable housing, another grocery store and more public seating areas.
The city will host a series of three public workshops to gather community feedback.
The first workshop is scheduled for Aug. 31 at the Grinton I. Will Public Library. Residents are encouraged to attend and share their ideas for the future of Central Avenue.
