Yonkers public schools outlined their plan of action following Gov. Andrew Cuomo's decision to close schools statewide.

The move comes as Superintendent Edward Quezada confirms the district's first case of coronavirus. The district says that case is an adult but didn't specify if it's a teacher or parent.

The district is working to contact all people who have come in contact with this individual

The superintendent says they started planning for long-term closure two weeks ago and feels they're ready. The district will remain closed through March 31, but that could be extended.

Teachers will be in school Wednesday and Thursday on a rotating basis for professional development, preparing for virtual learning.

Electronic learning will begin Thursday. Students who don't have access to technology will receive instructional materials.

The district is working to have three child care sites available for health care providers and emergency responders. They are in the process of identifying families and will make it available in three of their schools and aim to have it up and running by Friday.

They also plan to keep students fed. Starting Thursday, 10 school buildings will provide grab-and-go breakfast and lunch. The list of buildings will be on the district's website.
