Financially struggling schools in Yonkers may have finally hit the jackpot with the new video lottery terminals scheduled for Yonkers Raceway.
Governor George Pataki (R-NY) announced that Yonkers could get a windfall of $20 million for being the host city for the casino. Senator Nick Spano (R-Yonkers) introduced a bill where special aid is given to the city that hosts the slot machines, which brings millions in revenue to the state.Pataki plans to introduce the agreement into his budget proposal scheduled for next week. The $20 million is a one-shot deal, however, Spano is proposing legislation to make it a recurring event.
