Yonkers police say that a woman who was charged with abandoning her newborn in the hallway of an apartment building on Tuesday lived in the same building where the child was found.

Police say 21-year-old Jaqueline Marleni-Perez left the newborn on the floor of the hallway around 7:30 p.m.

The infant was found about an hour later.

After combing through surveillance video and talking to neighbors, police found Perez in her third-floor apartment.

When she was questioned by police, Marleni-Perez denied knowing anything about the incident.

The baby was rushed to the hospital and is in stable condition. The child is now with Child Protective Services.

The Westchester County District Attorney’s office is now handling the case.

If an infant is less than 30 days old, a parent can anonymously and legally leave their baby at certain locations like firehouses, hospitals and police stations.
