Yonkers police are investigating an apparent hit-and-run that took place Monday afternoon on Van Cortlandt Park Avenue around 4 p.m.
Police said they’re now trying to locate the vehicle and driver that fled the scene.
Yonkers Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza was at the investigation and told News 12 that a person was injured during the incident. However, he said he didn't want to comment on the severity of the injury at the time of the interview as the investigation was still unfolding.
News 12 noticed that police blocked off parts of the street to take videos of the crime scene. News 12 also observed officers standing near a single shoe that was lying on the roadway.
Police asked people to avoid the area as they investigated. News 12 did see officers escorting some residents to their home who said they lived on the block.
Shaquille Ogilvie was one of the residents who had to wait for the police to allow him to get to his home. He said he saw emergency personnel “reviving” a person who was apparently involved in the incident.
"I’m not sure what happened. He was just there and everybody was just crowded around him, trying to revive him,” Ogilvie said.
News 12 is working to learn more about the pedestrian and the vehicle that was involved in the incident.
