Yonkers police are cracking down on unregistered and illegally operated mopeds and scooters.
The crackdown is part of a special enforcement detail called "Half the Wheels, All the Laws."
During the operation, Detective Sgt. Frank DiDomizio said officers go out with a goal of finding unregistered, uninsured and recklessly operated mopeds.
It impounded 40 vehicles in just under four hours earlier this month during the latest event.
DiDomizio shared where the unlawful vehicles were found in the city.
"From Central Avenue to Getty Square," DiDomizio said. "If they see a bike with no plates-- they're gonna pull it over. If they see bikes parked on the sidewalks, being an obstruction for people that are walking around, we're gonna get them, too."
Some of the impounded vehicles were brought to a lot in Yonkers that is operated by a company called County Towing.
If one of your vehicles got impounded during the operation, department officials said you get it back by first obtaining the proper paperwork to drive it on the road.
