Following a string of gang-related shootings in Yonkers, the city's police department has stepped up patrols in an effort to curtail the rush of violence.
There have been four shootings in Yonkers since July 4. Over the past week, a Mount Vernon teenager was shot in the leg while walking on Cliff Street.
Police say the shootings are not connected, but they appear to be gang-related. According to authorities, more than 30 gangs operate in Yonkers.
Yonkers police have enlisted the help of the Mt. Vernon Police Department, along with state and federal authorities, to make the city safer.
