This year's Yonkers school budget crisis could be coming to an end, but parents are looking to the state and the city for a long-term solution.
Lawmakers are currently debating raising the sales tax as a solution.
The current sales tax is 8.375 percent, and raising it a half percent would raise $14 million a year -- all of it earmarked for classrooms.
While the head of the teacher's union supports the idea, it also means doing business in Yonkers will be more expensive.
The City Council would have to approve any raise in sales tax.
