The NYPD and Department of Buildings are investigating what could have led to an on-the-job accident that killed a Yonkers man on Friday at a construction site in New York City.
Trevor Loftus, 40, was the construction safety coordinator for a luxury hotel project in Manhattan.
Authorities say he was fatally injured at around noon Friday near 44th Street and Second Avenue while unloading materials from a truck.
It appeared that Loftus was pinned when the arm of a small crane malfunctioned. Firefighters removed the weight from Loftus, but he was pronounced dead.
The construction site had received several complaints in the past, but they were dismissed. The incident is being investigated by the New York City Department of Buildings and the NYPD.
Loftus was an Irish immigrant and the owner of Kenry Contracting Inc., located on Central Park Avenue in Yonkers. He lived around the corner with his wife and two children.
