Yonkers lawmakers adopted new district lines in a special meeting after weeks of fierce debate over how the city should handle redistricting.
The City Council voted 6-1 in favor of the map after holding several public hearings.
Those who voted in favor said it was a compromise across all districts and put the best interests of the residents and city in mind.
But not everyone agreed. Council Member Anthony Merante said the map cuts out part of the east side of his district in a targeted move for being outspoken against extending term limits late last year and for his decision to run for mayor this year.
To get on this June's primary ballot, candidates can start collecting signatures starting Feb. 28.
