The alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann is expected to admit to an eighth death in court Wednesday, multiple sources say.
Sources tell News 12 Heuermann is expected to say he killed Karen Vergata. At a court hearing Wednesday, sources say he will enter a guilty plea to the murders of seven other women.
Vergata's legs were found in a plastic bag on Fire Island after her disappearance in 1996. Her skull was found 15 years later west of Tobay Beach.
The terms of the plea agreement are not yet known, but there has been talk of a potential agreement for months.
The Massapequa Park architect has pleaded not guilty to killing seven women between 1993 and 2011 and leaving their remains along Gilgo Beach.
Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney will speak after the expected plea along with other law enforcement officials.
Heuermann was arrested in July 2023 in connection with a series of killings that shocked and mystified Long Islanders for decades.
