A group of Yonkers residents are incensed with the city's Municipal Housing Authority after receiving a letter explaining that their names and Social Security numbers may have been posted for all to see on a public website.
The letter, written by the executive director of the housing authority, explained a former employee made an unauthorized breach of its Section 8 database and created a website that included the personal information of thousands of tenants.
Officials insist once they became aware of the breach, they shut the website down and are now encouraging those in the Section 8 program to pay close attention to their bank and credit card statements.
So far there are no confirmed reports of anyone having their identity stolen because of the security breach at the housing authority.
