The city of Yonkers celebrated Women's History Month by handing out this year's "Women of Distinction" awards.
Five honorees were recognized for their positive impact on the community.
The honorees include homeless outreach advocate Chasity Bailey, Janice Lubin Kirschner from Family Service Society of Yonkers, Carmen Gomez Goldberg, of the Charter School of Educational Excellence, the Charles N. Bajart Jr. Unit #1122 Ladies Auxiliary and Rita Gross Nelon (posthumously), of the City of Yonkers Police Department.
Mayor Mike Spano handed out the awards and says the women have improved the lives of others in the community and their impact has changed Yonkers for better.
