The homeless population in Westchester's largest city could be at risk as winter approaches.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer says the county's contract with the Sharing Community expires on Dec. 31.
The soup kitchen and homeless shelter program uses space borrowed from community churches.
If the contract expires, it would allow for new plans to be made for the unused church space, which would put most of the homeless population in Yonkers with no place to go.
Latimer says he's still in negotiations to extend the contract beyond the Dec. 31 deadline for another six months to at least get the homeless sheltered through the cold winter months.
