The new ferry service from Yonkers to Manhattan is catching on with commuters, averaging 200 riders daily. The New York Water Taxi launched May 1. The boat makes four morning runs from Yonkers City Pier to the World Financial Center and Pier 11 between 5:50 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. It makes four return trips from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The boat captain says the ferry is not getting as many commuters as he would like, however, ridership is four times what it was when the service started. While the trip is more costly than Metro-North, riders on the taxi service say the scenic ride beats sitting in traffic.
By August, New York Water Taxi plans to expand its run further north to Haverstraw.
