The Yonkers community gathered to celebrate Dominican Independence Day.

Westchester Latinos Unidos hosted a free celebration at 222 Lake Ave., featuring a DJ, food, and drinks.

Attendees shared their reasons for joining the special event. "I'm here at the Dominican Independence Day celebration in Yonkers because I feel it connects us with our history and heritage. Both of my parents are Dominican, and even though I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, I still feel connected to the Dominican community," says Jeannatte Garcia, of Yonkers.

Dominican Independence Day is officially recognized on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
