The city of Yonkers' plan to revamp the Cottage Place Gardens is in full swing.
City, state and federal leaders broke ground Monday on phase two of the project. It involves the demolition of two vacant buildings, located at 10 and 11 Irving Place, to make room for a new, 51-unit high-rise building.
City officials say that when the new building is completed in December, it will offer a better quality of life to people of a wide range of income.
Some residents will be moving into a complex in April that is part of phase one of the plan, which is redeveloping the Schoolhouse Terrace apartments.
The project will cost an estimated $27 million and is paid for by local, state and federal funds.
