The City of Yonkers and several police officers will pay $50,000 to activist Hector Santiago, settling a federal civil rights lawsuit filed after his arrest at a City Council meeting in November 2022.
Santiago was detained during a meeting discussing term limit extensions for Mayor Mike Spano. He claimed false arrest and imprisonment. Although separately charged in connection with the incident, he was acquitted.
The city's attorney stated that accepting the offer does not imply liability on the part of the city or officers. Santiago's attorney declined to comment on the settlement.
