The Yankees are getting ready to give the Bronx at least $28 million over the next 40 years if plans for the team?s new $800 million stadium are approved.
According to the Daily News, the Yanks have come up with a draft plan for a community benefits program. Under the proposal, the borough would receive money to improve parks every year for 40 years. The Yankees are also proposing to donate equipment and tickets every year to needy Bronx groups.
The plan is currently being reviewed by Bronx political leaders, including Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr. Carrion is reportedly in favor of the plan, but says some details still need to be cleared up. The City Council is scheduled to hold a hearing on the proposed plan. A vote on the stadium project is slated for April 5.
