A worker in Monsey had to be saved Thursday afternoon after a trench collapse trapped him underground.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. at a house on Gibbs Court.
Workers were laying down wooden scaffolding for a new home when Otto Hernandez fell 10 to 12 feet into what will be the basement of the house. Part of the scaffolding fell on Hernandez, trapping him underneath it.
Police and fire crews were called in and after about 20 minutes, they were able to get him out.
Hernandez is being treated at Westchester Medical Center for injuries that are not life-threatening. A Ramapo building inspector told News 12 that the site has been shut down following the incident.
