The Woodbury town police chief has been suspended from duty.
County sources tell News 12 that Richard Vasquez was suspended for allegedly ignoring his duties in favor of campaigning. Vasquez is running against incumbent Lou Falco for the position of Rockland County sheriff.
Vasquez says the suspension is a well-timed political attack by Town Supervisor Ralph Caruso. He claims the bad blood between him and Caruso began earlier this year, when Vasquez refused to take department cars to a town mechanic.
Caruso says the situation is a "personnel matter" and refused further comment.
There is no word yet on whether Vasquez is suspended with or without pay.
