The election for Rockland sheriff is still months away, but the race is just beginning to heat up.
Woodbury Police Chief Richard Vasquez jumped into the race Monday, saying he has a plan to turn the county around.
Vasquez made his announcement on the steps of the county courthouse, flanked by his newest supporters: the correction officers union.
Vasquez insists that as a Rockland resident for more than two decades, he has the experience and vision to make the county a better place to live in.
He'll likely face off against Democratic incumbent Sheriff Louis Falco. Falco plans to formally announce his candidacy on April 9.
