A woman was pulled from a burning home on Plains Road in the hamlet of Wallkill Monday morning and remains seriously injured, according to fire officials.
Wallkill Fire Chief Gary Specht Jr. said crews “arrived on scene to a working house fire — one person trapped inside.”
“My assistant chief went inside, grabbed and got her out of the house. CPR was started immediately,” Specht said.
Two occupants of the home were transported to the hospital. One remains seriously injured. Specht also said, “One police officer [was] transported for smoke inhalation, and a second occupant of the home was also transported for smoke inhalation.”
An Ulster County Sheriff’s deputy at the scene said the fire is being treated as a crime scene. The cause has not yet been released.
Mutual aid from Orange County responded to assist, and an Orange County fire investigator is also on scene.
Specht said the snowstorm may have aided response efforts, as the volunteer department had a full crew already on standby at the firehouse due to the weather.
