A woman was killed in a house fire Tuesday morning in Nyack.
Fire officials say the flames broke out at around 8 a.m. at 3 Waldron Ave. Crews arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke and flames. It was only a matter of minutes before nearly 60 firefighters were able to put out the flames.
Firefighters say the body of 61-year-old Jarnail Kaur was discovered on the first floor.
Good Samaritans braved the flames to help Kaur's husband exit the home because he refused to leave his wife's side. He was taken to Nyack Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Other residents say eight people, including two children, also lived in the house and were able to escape the flames.
Firefighters say they believe the flames sparked in the rear bedroom of the home, but the exact cause remains under investigation.
