A woman was seriously injured and her dog was killed after they were struck by a car in Greenburgh Tuesday afternoon.
The accident happened just before 5 p.m. on East Hartsdale Avenue. Police say the 27-year-old woman was out walking her dog when she was struck. First responders found her in the middle of the road, unconscious. The woman lives across the street from where she was hit. Her building super says she is engaged and moved in five months ago.
The woman was taken to Westchester Medical Center, where she remains in serious condition. Her dog died at a nearby veterinary hospital.
Police say the driver stayed at the scene and answered questions. They do not anticipate charging the driver and it does not appear speed was a factor.
