A woman was rushed to the hospital Sunday evening after being hit by a car in Rockland County.

Police say the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of Route 59 in Spring Valley around 10:30 p.m.

Officers shut down the roadway just before Dutch Lane, in front of a bus stop and the Central Crossing Shopping Center, as they investigated a white Chevrolet SUV.

The woman was taken to Westchester Medical Center in critical condition.

Police say the driver remained on the scene for questioning.

There is no word on any charges yet.
