Westchester County Police confirmed a woman was discovered dead inside her vehicle Sunday morning on the Cross County Parkway.
Authorities say the discovery was made around 8 a.m. right before Exit7 Broad Street, going eastbound on the parkway.
According to Westchester County Police Chief of Department James Luciano, he says there is reason to believe the woman was targeted.
He added that while the investigation is preliminary, police additionally believe the woman was a victim of gun violence.
"There was some kind of criminal activity that had taken place as we noticed fresh damage on a fairly new car. Further investigation revealed that there was a female passenger inside that was determined to be deceased," Luciano said.
Luciano could not provide further details as of Sunday evening as the matter is under criminal investigation.
