A 37-year-old woman was fatally stabbed Saturday in Elizabeth, according to Union County prosecutors.
Prosecutors say police responded to the area of Broadway and Front Street around 10:30 p.m. after reports of a fatal stabbing. They say Lakeisha Brooks, of Elizabeth, was transported to a hospital where she died.
Brooks' loved ones say they are mourning and want justice for her death.
"Keisha was funny. She was goofy. She was silly. She was like the of the party. She was a hard worker and a beautiful mother. This is just really tough on us,” said her cousin, Nichelle. “She loved her children. She had a heart of gold."
People from the neighborhood where the stabbing occurred tell News 12 that the area normally feels safe.
“I never heard anything like this happen in this area at all,” said resident Sharell Pough.
Family members say they believe police know who killed Brooks and they are hoping the investigation leads to an arrest.
"This is ridiculous. It's senseless, and we're just hoping to get justice,” said Nichelle.
