We were spared for another winter storm as a powerful nor'easter passes safely offshore, however we'll feel the gusty wind and bitter cold on the backend of the storm today.
Temperatures today will one again struggle to reach the mid 20s, but wind gusts are increasing to more than 30 mph at times which will make it feel like near 0 this afternoon under mostly cloudy skies.
Tonight is another cold one. Temperatures will drop to 10F or colder and it will feel sub-zero Monday morning. Monday is sunny with high temperatures near 30. It's possible temperatures will briefly go above freezing (32 or warmer) on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday afternoon which will help with snow melt and end our epic streak below freezing.
As of today, we've had nine consecutive days below freezing which is the 4rd longest stretch on record for Islip. Records go back to 1964.
