Thousands lost power after strong overnight winds wreaked havoc on trees and power lines around Westchester and the Hudson Valley.
On Old Roaringbrook Road in Mt. Kisco, fallen trees and branches caused power outages and electricity problems.
On Bushey Avenue in Yonkers, a tree snapped in half, fell on a power line and caused the entire Royal Regency Hotel across the street to lose electricity.
Yonkers resident Joe Rivera says when he walked out of his house Sunday morning on Sprain Road, his two cars were destroyed, power lines were down, pipes were broken and his entire yard was covered with fallen branches.
Despite the devastation, Rivera says he is counting his blessings. "We're fortunate it didn't fall on the house," he says. "My wife and I would have been dead."
