A woman who had recently left a mental health institute allegedly killed her husband by beating him with a sledgehammer and stabbing him in the groin.

Pamela Mirra, 41, has been charged with manslaughter and murder in the death of her 56-year-old husband, Frank. In addition to the bludgeoning, authorities say Frank Mirra's penis was cut as a result of knife injuries to his groin.

Though his bloodied body was found Tuesday, police believe the murder happened days earlier. It is believed he may have been killed Saturday, which would mean the woman remained in the house with his body over the Easter holiday.

The pair's landlord discovered the body after following a foul stench to the home. He has already painted over the blood-stained walls and hopes to one day be able to rent the place out again.

A memorial service is being planned for Thursday evening.
