Strong winds tore through the Hudson Valley region Wednesday night, knocking down trees and power lines.
Winds with gusts of up to 50 mph started around noon and left thousands without power. At one point, some 10,000 homes and businesses were left in the dark.
One of the hardest-hit areas was Yonkers, where winds toppled a giant tree onto a house at 6 Cox Ave. No one was injured.
In Mount Pleasant, police had to direct drivers at a busy intersection on the Taconic State Parkway after a traffic light lost power.
