Highlands Middle School in White Plains was closed Friday after a fire in the auditorium the night before.
Firefighters and first responders on Thursday night rushed to the Grandview Avenue building, which was closed at the time.
The White Plains Public Schools superintendent said the fire started while crews were removing metal framing during planned window replacement work during off-hours.
The fire was quickly contained and extinguished by the White Plains Fire Department. No injuries were reported.
As a result, the school that houses seventh- and eighth-grade students was not open for class Friday.
