White Plains firefighter, 9/11 first responder dies of cancer
A White Plains firefighter who responded to the Sept. 11 terror attacks died Saturday after a battle with cancer.
Lt. Clarke Douglass served the White Plains Fire Department for more than 30 years. Friends say he was among the first responders at Ground Zero after the attack.
Over a decade after that, he was diagnosed with colon cancer.
Joe Carrier, president of White Plains Professional Firefighters 274, says that cities statewide should compensate families adequately for their loved ones' sacrifices.
Douglass is survived by his wife and children. His wake is a set for Thursday, with his funeral to follow on Friday.
