A White Plains family is safe this morning following a fire that damaged their home on South Broadway Thursday.
Officials reported that the homeowners were inside the house but escaped unharmed.
According to the deputy chief of the White Plains Fire Department, the fire originated in the walls, extended to the roof, and was likely electrical.
"In older buildings you have to keep up with maintenance, and if you keep up with maintenance, you're doing the best that you possibly can. There's a chance you can't prevent these fires, you want to have active smoke alarms, so if there is an emergency everyone is able to get out," said Deputy Chief Kevin Clampet.
One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was taken to White Plains Hospital, where they are expected to be okay.
