Tropical Storm Fay's whipping winds sparked a fire in Piermont along power lines Friday.
News 12's Nikita Ramos said she and her photographer noticed smoke coming from the overgrown trees along Route 9W. They called 911.
Orange and Rockland crews arrived shortly after to trim the burnt branches off.
Crews say they were extremely busy answering calls since Fay moved into the region.
Officials say power lines carry over 7,600 volts, and mixing that with the overgrown tree and a tropical storm was a recipe for danger.
Local officials are reminding everyone to keep a distance from faulty power lines and to always report if you see something wrong.
