A pit bull on wheels and his owner are traveling the country despite the odds against them.
Mel, from Mahopac, was diagnosed with a neurological disease that affects his balance.
His owner Tom Dilworth rescued him from Yonkers and says that Mel can run around like any other dog by using a set of wheels.
Dilworth says the 10-year-old pit bull has to be kept in a crate during the day when they are not home because Mel thinks he can walk and has gotten stuck on the stairs.
But with help from his owner and his wheels, Mel has hiked at the nation's most famous parks in 20 different states.
"Soon as we grab the wheels, he hears the wheels and knows the noise," Dilworth said. "He gets all excited and once he's in the wheels and he gets going, I've had to run after him sometimes."
All of Mel's milestones are documented on his Instagram account, hotrodmel, which has over 14,000 followers.
Dilworth says he hopes people learn nothing can stop anyone or any animal from living their perfect life.
