Faith-based leaders across Westchester are calling on the community to help residents of Flint, Michigan, during their water crisis.

More than a dozen of them joined forces on Thursday at the Nepperhan Community Center to appeal for cases of water and cash to send to the residents of Flint.

Residents of Flint, which is located 70 miles north of Detroit, have been exposed to contaminated water coming out of their taps ever since the state switched the water supply coming into the city to save money. The water contains high levels of lead, iron and toxic waste.

The Nepperhan Community Center is one of a half-dozen places where people can drop off the water over the course of the next week. The leaders say they plan to deliver the water themselves.
