Westchester County is offering residents a Columbus Day freebie on almost all Bee-Line buses.
The rides will also be offered on the day after Thanksgiving and the Saturday before Christmas to help stimulate the local economy. The Westchester-Manhattan Express is not included in the free-ride program.
The free rides have become a campaign issue in the race for county executive. Republican challenger Rob Astorino says the program is an election-year stunt by Democrat Andy Spano to get votes.
Spano has dismissed the charges of political expediency, arguing that two of the free-ride days are after the election.
