Westchester County opened a court dedicated to dealing with sex offense cases.
The court in White Plains has been operating for about a month and Thursday leaders were there for the official inauguration ceremony. The goal of the court is to specifically track sex offense cases, monitor offenders as they go through the court system and provide support for victims. Judges and court personnel received special training to deal with the cases.
New York is the first state to establish such a court, and Westchester is one of only three pilot sex offense courts currently in operation.
