Westchester County lawmakers are trying to prevent another power outage in the area. On Monday, legislators met with officials from Con Edison and New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) to have them explain why it took so long to recover from ice and windstorms this winter. They also want to know what is being done to prevent it from happening again. Tom Abinanti and his colleagues continued to defend their work following the deadly windstorms that left more than 85,000 Westchester homes in the dark. However, County Legislator Mike Kaplowitz (D-Somers) says the response was simply unacceptable. Both companies told lawmakers they plan to improve the way they do business. They also say they spent the past few months meeting with various county agencies and seeking out public input.
