Westchester County is launching a monkeypox vaccine clinic as case numbers climb in the U.S.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting at least 1,814 confirmed or probable cases of monkeypox in the U.S.

New York state officials say there are 18 cases in the Hudson Valley, including 16 in Westchester. 

County officials set up the vaccine clinic at the Health Department. Westchester County has received close to 1,000 doses of the vaccine, which is given in two shots 28 days apart.

The vaccine is only approved for people 18 and older. It's only for those who have contracted the virus or who have been exposed to it.

Monkeypox symptoms include fever, flu-like symptoms, and those with more serious illness may develop a painful rash or lesions.

The virus is spread from skin-to-skin contact usually under intimate circumstances or if a person has contact with clothing or bed linen that's been touched by an infected person with a rash or lesions.

The vaccine clinic is at 134 Court St. in White Plains. It is open Mondays 12-3 p.m. and Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. You must have an appointment. Call 914-995-8900 to set one up.
