A Westchester County woman was the recipient Friday of a major honor.
Jirandy Martinez was presented the New York State Senate Women of Distinction Award by state Sen. Shelley Mayer.
The award is given each year to one woman in each state Senate district for their outstanding contributions to local communities.
Martinez was selected for her work as the executive director of the Community Resource Center in Mamaroneck, a nonprofit that focuses on immigration resources, advocacy and empowerment.
"Jirandy is truly a model of leadership, a model of what we can hope to have in every community, in addition to which she is a caring and dedicated person," Mayer said.
“On this special day of Women's Equality, I hope that other woman who identify as immigrant first-generation daughters of working families know that they have true power in this world,” Martinez said.
Martinez said the recognition is more than just award for her but an acknowledgment of the work her team has done to help build and lead community.
