Hundreds of
people are getting a jump on the holiday weekend by hitting Glen Island Beach today.
While fees
today and this weekend are still in place, county officials say they're waiving some beach and
pool fees until September starting next week.
Starting Tuesday, Glen
Island Beach fees will be waived Monday through Thursday each week.
There also won't be fees at
Saxon Woods Pool in White Plains and at Sprain Ridge and Tibbetts Brook Park in
Yonkers.
County Executive George Latimer says it's the latest
effort to ease inflation costs.
In addition, officials have some tips for people to stay safe this holiday weekend.
They say it's important to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and watch for signs of heat exhaustion. Some signs included headache, nausea, vomiting and dizziness.
Westchester Health Commissioner Sherlita Amler says drowning is also a major concern, especially among children ages 1 to 3 years old.
"When you have your children beside a pool or at a beach the person who is watching them needs to know they are the designated person," says Amler.
Police also remind residents that fireworks are illegal in Westchester County.
