It was a busy start to the new year for Westchester County police.
In a recent Facebook post, officials say that despite warnings regarding drinking and driving over the holiday weekend, troopers made five DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) arrests on New Year's Eve and New Year’s Day.
One of the arrests stemmed from a car accident caused by a wrong-way driver on the Bronx River Parkway.
For 2023, there were 269 DWI-related arrests, marking a significant increase of 31 from the previous year, 2022.
Moreover, alongside the DWI arrests, the department reported making other notable arrests during this holiday weekend. These incidents involved crimes ranging from fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, and car theft.
