A teenage girl is recovering after jumping off the Bear Mountain Bridge.

The 16-year-old survived, thanks to some quick-thinking members of Westchester's Marine Unit who were at the right place at the right time.

Detective CJ Westbrook says the Mohegan Lake girl is very lucky the unit just happened to be north of the bridge on a call Tuesday afternoon when the teen decided to leap. She jumped from the center span, dropping more than 150 feet to the water below.

"Once we got to the Bear Mountain Bridge, we were directed by bridge workers to a woman in the water," he says. "We approached the woman. As we approached, she waved her arms and yelled out a scream."

Westbrook says the teen was surprised and also relieved to see police.

He and his partner pulled the girl out of the water, put her on a board and rushed her to a Peekskill park where emergency responders were waiting.

The girl was then transported to Westchester Medical Center for treatment.
