Westchester County held an interfaith prayer vigil to honor the memory of those who died in the Sept. 11 attacks and those who have passed away since from related illnesses.
It took place Wednesday at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla.
"Together, we pledge to never forget, to honor the memories of the fallen and to forever carry forward their legacy in our hearts," says Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins.
Seven names were added to the 9/11 First Responders Memorial. It honors people who have died from 9/11 related illnesses.
"I wanted him to be recognized for what he went through," says Yorktown Heights resident Deirdre Conley.
Conley's late husband, Edmund B. Conley Jr. was one of the names recently added.
He was a gas mechanic with Con Edison.
"He went down to the towers after to shut off all the gas down in lower Manhattan. He saw things that no one should have to see," Conley tells News 12.
More than 10 years later, Conley was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
"I said Ed, this could be a 9/11 cancer we need to explore this more and Mt. Sinai agreed," says Conley's sister, Noreen Lippolis.
Conley died in 2023.

The county will also be holding a Sept. 11 Memorial Service on Thursday at 3 p.m.
