The Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins (D) has signed next year's $2.5 billion budget.
Legislators approved the spending plan in a 13-to-4 vote. The new budget increases the property tax levy by 3.7%. Lawmakers said they were able to put more money back into key programs like low-income childcare.
However, they said the plan also means cuts to county jobs. "In this particular budget effort we talked about the county departments undergoing an average of eight percent savings across the board. That meant a hard hiring freeze and the elimination of 180 positions, which saved $20 million," says Jenkins.
The county executive added the average homeowner will pay roughly $3 more per month than this year.
