Westchester County Executive George Latimer confirmed on Monday that he tested positive for COVID-19.

The news came just hours after the county executive abruptly canceled his COVID-19 county briefing Monday afternoon.

Latimer says he's doing OK and is isolating at home with mild symptoms.

George Latimer is vaccinated, but county officials say his positive diagnosis comes after he heard he was exposed to COVID at a community event.

Right now, it's unclear when and where this event was held.

News 12 has also learned that he is continuing his work from home in isolation.

In a statement, his office said, "He is grateful his symptoms are mild thanks to his COVID-19 vaccinations."

This comes as the county imposed a mask mandate for all indoor venues to fight the winter surge of COVID-19 cases.

According to the latest data from the state Department of Health, Westchester County has a positive rate of 3.9%, with more than more than about 460 cases reported on Saturday.

Although this is one of the lowest in the state, it's showing a daunting upward trend back to numbers that haven't been seen since March - a surge that health officials have been warning about.
